Who do you think won the battle?
I thought I would preface this post with a few facts.
GMD: I am somewhat of a “name brand whore” with Apple/I-Things being my absolute favorite.
J: Claims to be anti-name brand with Apple/I-Things being on the top of his dislike list.
*I think it’s only fair to add in that Mr. Anti-Name Brand J has a Sony big-screen TV, Samsung Galaxy Smartphone, and Samsung Computer monitor but shhhhhh I didn’t just tell y’all that
In real life, if anyone ever meets us, J and I are like polar opposites but we do have the same financial goals/priorities which is important in a relationship.
My current PC is a 7-year-old HP (Hewlett-Packard) on its last leg and me being the frugal enthusiast PF blogger I am (did my nose just grow a few inches?) refuses to buy a new laptop until the old one is dead. Like not moving kinda dead.
Currently, J and I don’t have official joint finances, but we do always “consult” each other with big purchases that we plan on making.
Of course when I told J that I wanted to buy an Apple MacBook Pro once my old PC dies, he went on a huge Apple rant being overpriced/overrated blah blah blah and I stubbornly replied that now that I am a “serious” blogger, I need a quality computer because the HP was seriously not cutting it anymore. Plus I’ve always wanted a MacBook because I love my Ipod and Iphone so much! WWIII then broke out in our household with us finally agreeing to disagree on the subject for now and to bring it up again when I’m actually ready to buy one.
The time came earlier than I anticipated because J gave me a computer voucher of my choice (but not Apple!) for my recent 30th birthday! Awwww
Last week J and I were in Oregon – the state of Tax-Free shopping and I decided to redeem my birthday computer voucher down in Portland to take advantage of lower American prices and no sales tax. We went into Best Buy and the computer gods must have been smiling down on me that day because Apple which is notorious for never having sales on their products had a special $200 off their MacBooks!!!
That means if I bought the MacBook Pro 13′ I would only be paying $999.99 no tax! In Vancouver, they sell at $1199.99 plus 12% tax. What a steal of a deal! Even J had to begrudgingly admit that. J made me browse the other PCs trying with all his might to get me interested in some of the other PC models, and I did my best to look semi-intrigued but we both knew my heart was set on the Apple.
I suggested that I used my birthday money I received from my family to help pay for part of it and he sucked up his anti-name brand pride and bought me the Apple MacBook Pro!
I could literally see him cringing as he signed the credit card slip. I guess love does conquer all….. but so does charming persistence!
