#Tag: I Love Drugstore Makeup

I Love Drugstore MakeupI am a huge makeup/beauty junkie.  I will confess that I love nerding it up and watching beauty You Tube videos in my lazy down time.

Unfortunately, some of my previous frivolous spending included spending thousands of dollars on high-end department store/Sephora/MAC makeup. I don’t fully blame You-Tube Beauty Gurus since I am a grown woman and have a brain of my own, but I do know that watching all those makeup/beauty videos did nothing but add fuel to the fire of my burning shopping addiction.

As a result, I will admit that I have a very nice makeup collection with everything you could ever need. If you can think of a beauty product, I probably have at least 2 different kinds of it. Yikes!

Luckily for my wallet, I am no longer hoarding adding to my makeup collection because I’m serious about paying off my debt. That means no more buying any makeup/beauty product unless I run out of something and absolutely needed to. In the last few months I have only had to replenish mascara, liquid eyeliners and eyebrow pencils. But rather then going to Sephora or MAC like I normally would have done in the past, I have now been browsing my local drugstores for more affordable options. I have found some really fantastic goodies at the drugstore, so naturally I had to do this I Love Drugstore Makeup Tag to share with you all…..

The Questions:

1. What is your favorite drugstore makeup brand overall?

Without a doubt, Revlon. They have really been stepping up their game lately and in turn encouraging other drugstore brands to compete. The quality of Revlon’s recent releases has been quite impressive and their packaging is looking more elegant.

2. What are your favorite face, cheek and lip products?

Face – Revlon Colorstay Foundation. This foundation will not budge. Good stuff. (I wear 330 Natural Tan for Oily Complexions in case anyone is curious)

Cheek – I have yet to find a drugstore cheek product that I love, but I do like Physicians Formula Happy Booster Glow & Mood Boosting Blush (wow what a mouthful lol)

Lip – Revlon Lip Butters (Red Velvet is my favorite color)

3.  Least favorite product?

I don’t know if it’s my least favorite drugstore product, but I recently bought a Carmex lip balm and I am not a fan. At all. But I will use it all up since that’s what a frugal PF blogger would do ;)

4. What is the best makeup bargain?

I am a fan of those NYC Kohl Brow/Eyeliner Pencil. I wear the universal color Taupe.  They are long pencils and are usually priced at around $1.99 but I always try to buy them on sale.

5. What is your favorite underdog product? (Something you love that often gets overlooked?)

It’s not exactly an underdog product but I don’t think L’oreal’s Carbon Black Lineur Intense Felt Tip Liquid Eyeliner gets enough love in the beauty blog/You Tube community. If liquid eyeliner scares you then give this gem a shot. Even a makeup newbie will be able to draw a sexy cat eye with this thing!

6. A drugstore product that is overpriced?

The Revlon Colorstay Foundation may be my favorite drugstore face product but DAMN it is overpriced!!! I try to buy it when it is on sale but even at Wal-Mart it retails at $17.99 CAD

7. Show your best drugstore dupe(s)!!

Temptalia has a super helpful list of hundreds and hundreds of drugstore dupes but L’Oreal Voluminous in Carbon Black is probably my favorite dupe for the famous Dior Diorshow Mascara

8. Drugstore product that isn’t worth the hype?

It may be one of the cheaper mascara options at the drugstore but I just don’t get why the pink and green tube is so popular. Maybelline Great Lash Mascara does NOTHING for my lashes.  I just don’t get the hype!

I now #Tag anyone who loves drugstore makeup to do a post as well :)

I completely agree with you on the Great Lash mascara. I’ve tried it a couple times, and just ended up throwing the stuff away. Even getting the waterproof formula, the stuff won’t stay on my lashes worth a damn. Even at the price they sell it at, it just isn’t worth it for me.

They tried to revamp it recently with a new “heart” shaped brush and me being the sucker that I am bought it ofcourse. Still sucks. New brush, same formula. Just not worth it.

Covergirl Lash blast is an amazing inexpensive mascara.

I love drugstore brands. And I love the Drugstore Tag too! I wish I knew/tried enough beauty products to actually DO this tag too. (I only started wearing BB cream a few months ago and got a mascara last month!)

I have Carmex and I love it. I wouldn’t suggest it as an everyday lip balm though. It’s medicated. So I’d only use it when my lips are super dry chapped or cracked lips (or bisters or cold sores.) I do love the Revlon Lip Butters. I have three of them myself!

Which BB cream did you buy? I tried the Garnier one and it’s not too bad! I just wish they had more color selection. Light, medium & dark is not much of a selection :S

I’ve only ever tried Marcelle (the original non-SPF one.) I love how dewy and evens out my skin/complexion.

Gosh, drugstore products… where do I begin with which ones I love! But for cheek products, have you tried the Milani baked blushes? I really like them, and Milani Luminoso is a dupe for NARS Orgasm.

I also hear you on Maybelline’s Great Lash mascara. I normally love Maybelline mascaras, but I don’t get the Great Lash hype. I’m going to use up my tube, but I don’t plan on repurchasing it.

Dupe for Nars ridiculously expensive but extremely beautiful blush Orgasm? I’m all over it ;) Thanks for the suggestion! It’s just too bad that Milani is slightly more challenging to find in Canadian drugstores…

I’ve never tried Orgasm, but I really like Luminoso. I’ve read some reviews where people have actually liked Luminoso better than Orgasm, but I’m not sure how much of that has to do with the significantly cheaper price tag!

Unfortunately most drugstore brands test their products on animals! I have a rescue beagle, which is the no. 1 breed of dog used in testing, so I’m sensitive. You should all try going cruelty-free! :)
