Girl Meets Debt

Weekly Spending: Jan. 20 – 26, 2013

CAUTION!!! Do not continue reading if you think shopping for clothes and a purse (even at steals of a deal) is unacceptable for someone in debt.

For the rest of us (who are human) and sometimes can’t resist a terrific sale…

Sunday:
No Spend Day!

Monday:
-$5.60 London Drugs
-$400.00 Extra payment towards Personal Loan

Tuesday:
-$58.74 Aritzia (For all my Canadian readers, you know Aritzia only has a sale twice a year!)

Wednesday:
-$58.22 Aritzia (Ummm, I have no explanation…)

Thursday:
- $31.35 Aldo Purse (but it had pretty rose gold buckles!)
-$10.94 Vitamins

Friday:
-$124.00 Monthly Transit Pass
-$20.00 Load my Starbucks Card
-$4.76 Vietnamese Sub
-$1.06 Tim Horton’s (I’m so Canadian eh ;) )

Saturday:
No Spend Day!

Total Spend: -$714.67

To be honest, I almost didn’t want to publish this Weekly Spending post since I was a bad girl and went shopping Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday but nevertheless I want to be honest with myself and my readers…

If it’s any consolation, the clothes I got from Aritzia were classic wardrobe basics that will get a lot of usage. I hardly ever buy “trendy” pieces that will only last one season but if I do, then I usually shop for them at Forever 21. I have always had a personal shopping rule for myself to never spend more than $50 on super trendy items. See, even a former shopaholic had frugal habits ;)

How was your spending last week?

Aw, don’t get down on yourself! I’m glad you posted your spending report (shopping transactions and all)!! We’re all human! Since I’m a recovering shopaholic too, I know it’s hard to kick the habit cold turkey.

Buy anyhoo, glad to see you put extra payments on your personal loan :) . Slowly but surely we are getting ourselves out of our debt piles!

P/s let’s see a pic of this new bag of yours ;)

Hey, we’re all human! As long as you’ll get your money’s worth for your purchases, then no harm done I think. Plus, as Rachelle pointed out, you still put an extra payment towards your loan so it’s not like your shopping this week affected that :)

No harm done except a little bit of my pride bruised haha.

Joking aside, even though I was kinda embarrassed about posting this week’s spending, I think the weekly reports will keep me accountable to myself because I can’t surely buy anymore clothes next week too :P

What did you get at Aritzia? O_O

Last week… I spent… 99 cents at Rexall. I only have 92 cents in my monthly budget so I’ve been avoiding the malls.

I think the question should be what did I not get at Aritzia lol

99 cents all week??? And the rest were No Spend Days? Wow, that’s fantastic!!!

Hi! I also went shopping this week (Monday & Saturday). I bought some work clothes (blazer, 2 pairs of dress pants, cardigan). I spend a total of $135 (not bad, I think). I have been saving up since early December since I knew I needed to get some fresh things for the work place since I donated about 4 outfits in November since they were getting old and didn’t fit me well. I think it’s okay to shop for certain items as long as you plan for it. For instance, I knew exactly what I wanted, I keep a wish list of things I would like to buy in my daily calendar and slowly buy them when I have the money.

That’s impressive that you’ve been saving since early December to buy the work clothes now! And $135 is awesome for blazer, 2 pairs of dress pants and cardigan. Can you please come shop for my work clothes? :P

I’ll confess to a shopping splurge last week on a gorgeous swimsuit by Garatos (Columbian designer). It cost me about $120 CAD which I had never spent on a swimsuit before but the high quality of the fabric and design will allow me to wear it for a few years. Kudos for being brave enough to post your weekly spending, shopping sins and all lol.
